Things to do this weekend (Memorial Day Weekend) in Bath, Maine

While Memorial Day weekend is summer’s traditional kickoff, it is first and foremost a time set aside to honor all of those who gave their lives in service to our country. The National Archives has a nice backgrounder on the history of the Memorial Day holiday. On Monday, Bath’s Memorial Day parade, organized by American Legion Post #21, begins at 10:30am. See the route here. Bath’s Oak Grove Cemetery, home to the Civil War Veterans’ monument (pictured above), is open for a walk or exploration every day. Thanks to local volunteers, veterans’ graves will be marked with an American flag.

Bath is at the head of two of Maine’s most beautiful peninsulas - Arrowsic/Georgetown Islands, which border the east bank of the Kennebec; and Phippsburg which borders the west bank. The weather looks spectacular all weekend. Head to Georgetown this weekend - Five Islands Farm market opens for the season on Friday. Reid State Park has reopened and is ready to host your beach time - sit and read, walk, frolic in the ocean, etc. (Despite what the web page might say, it reopened May 15th, 2023). Five Islands Lobster is already going strong, still just open on weekends for now, but also open this Monday for Memorial Day. If you want to get out on the water, Bath’s spectacular Maine Maritime Museum offers guided cruises every day.

Every Saturday, Bath’s Farmers Market runs from 8:30am-12noon in Waterfront Park. Come see what is new from the farms! Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine shop is hosting some of their makers on Front Street from 11am-2pm on Saturday as well.

Embark Maine Tours is of course offering guided walking tours of Bath’s Historic Districts - our Downtown Tour is offered on Friday at 4pm and Saturday at 9:30am; our Washington Street Neighborhood Tour is offered on Sunday and Monday (special for the Memorial Day holiday) at 11am. Book on our website.

As always, best to check individual business and organization websites and their social media (especially Facebook) for any updates to hours, days, specials, or special events! Enjoy!
