Summer is just around the corner...
Spring in Bath is magical - the trees are leafing out, the scent of lilacs fills the air, docks are going in, the days are sunny and it stays light longer - leaving time for a quick trip to Popham Beach after school, or an excuse to walk downtown to The Fountain for ice cream after dinner. Sure, we may still be wearing sweaters and jackets, but not for long.
It’s also time - this Saturday, May 20th, 2023 - for Main Street Bath’s annual event Spring into Summer where local organizations and businesses band together to provide sales, activities, and special events as we celebrate the imminent arrival of summer. New this year is the Patten Free Library’s Clothing Swap. Downtown you can pat a bunny, pot a plant, and take part in a scavenger hunt. The Farmer’s Market at Waterfront Park has more and more yummy produce for sale each week spring progresses. The Maine Maritime Museum is hosting “Community Day” with free admission and 10 dollar cruises. It will also be the temporary site for the the return of the Virginia, Maine’s First Ship coming back to its homeport for the summer.
Pictured above are some of my students at last year’s Spring into Summer event, selling baked goods to raise money to add a grave marker to our school’s namesake’s grave. Charlie Trolley provides a picturesque backdrop - and 1 dollar rides around Bath! Embark is running some special tours Saturday, but you can join us on Friday at 4pm for our Downtown Tour, or Sunday at 11am for our Historic Neighborhood tour. Happy spring!
