Things to do this weekend in Bath, Maine, June 23rd-25th
This weekend in Bath, the students, the teachers, principals and school librarians (me!) will be savoring the first days of summer vacation. Probably a trip to Popham Beach or Reid State Park is on the agenda. If you can’t find the beach chairs or other gear, head to Reny’s. We will also dig through the closet for the red, white and blue summer wardrobe in anticipation of the Fourth of July holiday and Heritage Days. (The poster this year is exquisite!)
What else to do?! Friday evening, summer music continues at 6:30pm at City Park. This past Tuesday, the summer music series started at City Park (more commonly referred to locally as Library Park). Every Tuesday and Friday during the summer, bring a picnic, chair, blanket, or just grab a bench and enjoy the Bath Municipal Band - their Swing Band (Tuesdays) and the Concert Band (on many Fridays) as they fill the gazebo and the air with their talent. Other Friday performers include a barbershop chorus, Irish music, Maine Pops and Suzuki Kids. See the full schedule here from Main Street Bath.
This Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30pm, and Sunday afternoon at 2pm, the Chocolate Church production of Neil Simon’s Rumors continues. Tickets available here.
Saturday morning - as usual - the exquisite Bath Farmers Market is set up in Waterfront Park from 8:30am-noon. Is it just about time for tomatoes? Maybe not quite yet with our lack of sunshine, but strawberries and asparagus, yes!
Looking ahead, beyond this weekend, on Monday, the harbor-side restaurant The Osprey, in Georgetown, is hosting a Pinot Noir Wine Dinner with two seatings. Maine’s First Ship is hosting Wednesday night lectures at the beautiful Freight Shed in Bath at 7pm. Learn about some aspect of maritime history and see the Virginia herself, a replica of the first British built ship in North America. See all of their events here.
Embark Maine Tours has our regular Downtown Tour, Friday at 4pm and Neighborhood Tour, Sunday at 11am.
Then next weekend, June 30th through July 4th, it’s the big one, the event of the year in Bath, Heritage Days, a free 5-day celebration leading up to the Fourth of July. Learn more here, and access a printable schedule here. Two stages with live music, a carnival, Art in the Park, Library Book Sale, Food Trucks, Firemen’s Muster, a Wine Garden, a parade (the biggest in the state) and new this year - a Sword Fighting Demo (at 1pm as a part of Kids Day in Library Park on July 3rd). All capped off with Fireworks viewable from Bath’s downtown and waterfront. More details next week!
