Things to do in Bath, Maine this weekend, June 10th - 12th, 2022

This weekend is all about the blue and white because it is REUNION and GRADUATION weekend for 119 year old Morse High School, our estimable secondary school, home of the Shipbuilders and one of the most (if not THE most) robust high school alumni associations in the country. Morse is so named in honor of the mother of its biggest donor, Charlie Morse, Bath native and Ice King of NYC (complicated story but here’s a little more history). What a joy it will be to see students and alum celebrating in person, hopefully safely, and with what looks to be lovely weather all weekend long. Many of the businesses on Front Street adopt a celebrating class and decorate their store windows with themed regalia. Why not see them on our 4pm Friday Downtown Walking Tour? 😊

Friday night After strolling Front St, stop into Burano’s Wood Fired Pizza (formerly Bruno’s). This restaurant is consistently delicious, with a core menu of pizza 🍕, pasta, burgers and other sandwiches with fantastic specials (like just this week, mini lemon meringue pies!) They have a lovely outdoor, pup-friendly patio and great cocktails. I recommend the bacon burger and the spicy soppressata pizza.

Saturday After browsing the Bath Farmer’s Market at Waterfront Park and/or taking our 9:30am Saturday Downtown Walking Tour, try brunch at Winnegance Restaurant and Bakery, at the southern end of Bath on High Street. Eat on the porch of this charming old country store, and look out over Winnegance Creek, the site of several sawmills back the day. These folks know what to do with seafood 🦞 - mussels, haddock, salmon, clams, scallops, quahogs - you name it, they have an inventive preparation for it. Their award-winning chowder is not to be missed. Plus all the standbys (lobster roll, grilled cheese, pancakes) and amazing baked goods, plus beer and wine. Head back into downtown Bath and spend the day window shopping, and shopping-shopping. Not to be missed stores with those special reunion windows include House of Logan, Bohemian Rose (photo featured here) and J’adore Consignment.

Saturday night Maybe to avoid any crowds from reunion festivities, head just a bit out of town to another great local favorite, Montsweag Roadhouse. Montsweag has a big ol’ bar in the middle of it all and the friendliest bartenders. 🍻 They also have outdoor seating. Be careful turning into their parking lot, as traffic flies by in either direction on Route 1. Try the flatbread pizza appetizer or the fish and chips.

Sunday Stop by Cafe Creme downtown for a smoothie and croissant or other breakfast treat. Join us for our 11am Historic Neighborhood Tour, we meet at at Patten Free Library, in the Gazebo. Afterward, grab sandwiches at Sisters Gourmet Deli and head to Reid State Park, across the bridge in Georgetown to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in Maine.

Sunday night Afterward, stop at the Bar at Blue 🍸, at Grey Haven’s Inn (or you can reserve for dinner ahead of time). Don’t worry about going casual - that’s a-ok in Maine. The folks at the Inn were SO hospitable to birders around the world this winter when the Russian native Stellar’s Sea Eagle made an extended appearance on the islands visible from the Inn’s porch. Ask them all about it!
