Bath (and Brunswick) area summer activities

Welcome to the heart of July! The weather continues to be a bit uncooperative, but we have had some lovely beach days, pond swimming afternoons, and outdoor dining evenings. Check the forecast and take advantage of all the fun events going in in the Bath area. Read on for more…

This weekend in Bath, why not kick it off on Thursday, July 13th, from 5-7pm with a wine tasting at Now You’re Cooking, this month featuring Spanish and Portuguese wines. At 4pm Embark Maine Tours is running our Downtown Bath Walking Tour - learn about 1840s and 50s libations that were popular in our shipbuilding and shipping port. Go ahead and round out your evening with trivia at Byrne’s Irish Pub beginning at 6:30pm.

The free Summer Concert Series in Bath, Maine continues in Waterfront Park and Library Park.

On Friday evening, July 14th at 6:30pm, the free Summer Concert Series continues with the Bath Municipal Band performing at the Library Park gazebo. The Maine Maritime Museum’s annual gala is sold out but you can still participate in their online auction.

On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12noon the Bath Farmers’ Market (heirloom tomatoes pictured above) will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. We are running our Downtown Tour at 9:30am, as usual. And, from 11am-2pm, Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine continues their “Meet the Maker” series with fellow Bath-entrepreneur and photographer Benjamin Williamson. Williamson is the former photo editor for Downeast magazine and as such has all the best tips for visiting shutterbugs and some great pieces to take home from your visit to Maine. From 10am-2pm, Kennebec Meat Company is hosting Portland’s The Lost Llama, serving up delish Peruvian Chicken!

If your weekend visit to the beach or the trails is spoiled by rain, visit the Curtis Library in nearby Brunswick, Maine and explore the Robert McCloskey: The Art of Wonder exhibit. McCloskey is the beloved author/illustrator of “Blueberries for Sal”, “One Morning in Maine” and the Caldecott winning “Make Way for Ducklings”. The exhibit features over 70 of his original drawings/sketches from his books. The library and exhibit are open from 9:30-6 Monday - Friday and 9:30-5 on Saturday (closed Sunday). While in, or considering a visit to Brunswick, check out the Bowdoin International Music Festival as well. Many of their student (classical music) performances are FREE and will blow you away!

Back in Bath, on Saturday at 5pm, more free music, this time at Waterfront Park, featuring the Portland based Indie trio, Love By Numb3rs. (Check out a video clip with the sights and sounds of last week’s Fleetwood Mac tribute band!) While on the waterfront, you can check out the newly installled Japanese Torii gate, commemorating an important event in Bath history.

Solo Pane in downtown Bath, Maine on Centre Street is now offering “Apertivo”!

Local Bath bakery Solo Pane is now serving drinks and snacks Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3-7pm (al fresco, weather permitting.)

Finally, on Saturday and Sunday at 6pm in Library Park, the Camden Shakespeare Festival presents an outdoor performance of Midsummer Night’s Dream. Tickets available here. Check the website also for any weather related updates.
