Things to do in Bath, Maine this weekend, August 25th-27th, 2023

Plenty of summer “tastes”, but also peaking/peeking ahead…

Bath, Maine - area summer activities!

It is a great time to visit Maine! Perhaps slightly smaller crowds as kids go back to school, and before the leaf peeping begins. Kick it off Thursday, August 24th at 4pm with our Downtown Walking Tour. Then, at 7pm in Phippsburg just down the peninsula, the Popham Beach Library will host a talk about archaeological findings from last year’s dig near Fort Popham. The 1607 Popham colonists were the first British settlement (short-lived) in the area. (Learn more on our Downtown Tour or at the Maine’s First Ship visitor’s center in Bath.)

The Osprey restaurant at Robinhood Marina in Georgetown is such a special spot - great food, views, people, art, events, etc., etc., etc.

Also on Thursday at The Osprey in Georgetown, eat pizza for FREE if you chip in for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick fundraiser, starting at 5:30pm. Mast Landing Brewing will be offering samples of their canned cocktails and beers. Music provided by Spencer Albee, starting at 6pm. Enjoy the view in this beautiful spot (see photo, at right).

The next day, the weather looks a little dicey, but as of now, our Friday at 4pm Downtown Bath Walking Tour is a go.

Also Friday at 4pm, Maine Tasting Center in Wiscasset is holding a “Marvelous Maine Mocktails” class. Yum! If it’s raining outside, this class is a sure bet!

On Friday from 4-6pm, Now You’re Cooking in Bath hosts a German wine tasting, kicking off a special weekend focusing on all things Zwilling - with the culinary company’s Airstream headlining it all! Check out the tricked out retro trailer parked on Front St. or sign up for one of their knife skill classes on Saturday. (You may not know, my husband and I traveled for two years, cross-country, in an old Airstream trailer - read all about it!)

If you can’t make it to Maine Tasting Center, Bath’s Kennebec Tavern offers Maine beer flights!

On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12 noon the Bath Farmers’ Market will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. I will try to get there early enough for the baby artichokes!

Up for a little train ride? On Saturday, the brand new Coastliner is offering a sneak peek of their “asphalt-free” excursions starting with a Bath - Wiscasset run. There are three round trips - jump on and go back and forth, or stay a while at either destination. Learn more and reserve your spots here. I am so excited about this! (Speaking of sneak peeks, it’s never too early to ponder fall foliage season…).

Also on Saturday, at 1pm, Maine Tasting Center is hosting a “Pairing Craft Beer with Iconic Maine Foods” Class. I wonder what foods will be featured!? And what beer?!

Can’t beat Bath, Maine’s Waterfront Park for a concert!

On Saturday evening at 5pm, check out the last Waterfront Park concert of the season - and what a finale - Pan Fried Steel and their steel drums! How appropriate in the City of (steel) Ships. One last time, thank you Chocolate Church and Main Street Bath (and sponsors!) for bringing us the music all summer long!

Also on Saturday night, you could probably clap for the Pan Fried Steel encore, then scoot across the bridge to Georgeotown to make it just in time to hear the Porch Party Mamas (love them) at Robinhood Free Meetinghouse at 7pm. But get your tickets now.

Maine Maritime Museum’s all day event Sunday celebrates and benefits Maine’s Lobster Industry. (Above photo from 2021 Pints on the Pier.)

On Sunday, August 27th, the Maine Maritime Museum is hosting “Music, Masts & Lobster Traps”, an all-day event to benefit Maine’s lobster industry. From 9:30-3, with your Museum admission, enjoy special exhibits and presentations. At 3pm, the beloved Mallet Brothers Band will perform right on the Kennebec River in this picturesque and historic setting (see a photo of 2021’s Pints on the Pier event above).

And for some WINNING wildcards to add to your weekend/week mix any time - visit some of our 2023 award-winning businesses: Ebb & Flow Yoga (Best Yoga Studio - Down East Magazine’s Best of Maine), Island Treasure Toys (Best Toy Store - Down East), Long Reach Kitchen (Best Burger & Best Lobster Roll)- Times Record’s Best of the Midcoast) and Byrne’s Irish Pub (Best Bar - Times Record’’s Best of the Midcoast).

Looking ahead … Main Street Bath’s annual fundraiser concert featuring “All About Joel” Billy Joel Tribute band is Sunday, September 3rd at Waterfront Park. Buy tickets here. Please join me in supporting the nonprofit organization which gives us so many gifts throughout the year!

Enjoy your weekend in the Bath area! If you would like to receive this weekly info directly in your in-box, sign up here. A new “This Weekend in Bath area” posts every Wednesday or Thursday.
