Things to do in Bath, Maine area in October 2023!

Ahhhh - October!

Bath, Maine - area fall activities and updates!

Scroll down for NEW new October events since this post first published 9/27/23

Our weekly summer “what’s happening” blog posts are morphing to just 1x / mo for the off-season. You may want to bookmark ⭐ this page and return as I will be updating with new and timely events throughout the month.

Of course first and foremost always in the fall in New England is the Foliage Report - updated every Wednesday by the State of Maine. They are saying all this wacky weather may lead to gloriously wacky color! 🍁

As to events, this week, at 12 noon on Thursday, September 28th, Union & Co., is hosting Bath City Manager Marc Meyers during a free casual lunchtime conversation at the Grant Building. I personally can’t wait to ask him “What’s the difference between a city and a town?” - a frequently posed question on our downtown tour. Learn more and RSVP here. Union & Co. has a slew of other fun events coming up this month as well - see the full schedule here. (Full disclosure - I am doing some part time work with them helping to support the new Grant Building and all that it is bringing to Bath!)

Love the balcony seats in the Chocolate Church! John Gorka, singer song writer has the crowd just where he wants them.

On Friday, September 29th at 4pm, join our downtown tour and hear me relay what Marc had to say. (In 1847, Bath became a city - it had been a town. What does it mean???)

Saturday morning, from 8:30-12 noon the Bath Farmers’ Market will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. Last of the corn and tomatoes - come and get ‘em! 🎃 The market is year-round and switches locations to the Freight Shed in November.

Maine Old-Fashioned Girl is just one of the 40+ vendors who will be at the Caravan Artist Market on Sunday, Oct. 1st in Waterfront Park in Bath.

Then, Saturday at 11am, the City of Bath is holding a ceremony dedicating the Torii Gate that was installed a few months ago (see pic above) on Commercial Street near the bridge. Bath’s sister city relationship with Tsugaru, Japan is rooted in a tragic shipwreck which took place in 1889 off the coast of Japan.

The Cheseborough wrecked, plunging the crew into the chilly water; four survivors made it to shore and were nursed back to health by local villagers.

Personal note: One of those killed in the wreck, 2nd mate Fred Soule, grew up in our house in Bath (he followed his father’s footsteps in his profession; his father was a captain and his mother gave birth at sea - twice!) Saturday morning’s dedication will help connect Bath’s history to Bath today - my favorite!

On Saturday night at 7pm, the Chocolate Church hosts the Pihcintu Chorus, a multicultural group of young immigrants from around the world, who now call Portland, ME home. Learn more and buy tickets here.

On Sunday, October 1st, from 11am-4pm, the beloved Caravan Artist Market - a Feisty Fall Market this time - returns to Waterfront Park. Bring your wallet because this curated market features the best of the best - you will want to buy at least one of everything. You could join us on our Neighborhood Tour beforehand (Sunday at 11am) and still have plentyyyy of time to shop.

You too can take in this view of Bath from the Carlton Bridge while riding the Coastliner train!

Looking ahead…Saturday, October 7th is a BIG day in Bath. Community Involvement Day is at Waterfront Park from 9:30am-12:30pm and you can learn about 40 different Bath nonprofits; also on Saturday, from 9am-12noon, Main Street Bath presents Autumnfest, featuring lots of sales at downtown shops, face painting, photo booth, and raffles. That day, the Coastliner is also offering another schedule of train excursions between Bath and Damariscotta. (And doing the same for Damirascotta’s Pumpkinfest!)

*New as of 10/3/23*

Saturday, October 7th at 4pm- the beloved annual Chili Chowder Fest fundraiser at the Freight Shed. Buy tickets here.

Sunday, October 8th at 1:30 pm - The Blessing of the Animals. Animals should be on leash or in carrier. Bring a donation of pet food or $ for local nonprofit Dogwill.

Enjoy fall in the Bath area! Check back to this page for updates throughout the month. If you would like to receive this monthly info directly in your in-box, sign up here.
