Tour Talk! First up, the Kennebec River

Hello! So many great questions come up on the tours. Some, I can answer right off. Some inspire additional research. All are interesting and improve the tours so I thought I’d share regular highlights here. Brought to you by…YOU - Embark Maine Tour’s historical walking tour participants.

First up: How deep is the Kennebec River?’

At Bath, the Kennebec is about 30 feet deep. NOAA’s nautical charts (see chart #15) offer more detail. Of course, this fact is all the more interesting when you learn about Bath’s massive 19th century shipbuilding industry and today’s Navy destroyer production at Bath Iron Works.
