Bath, Maine and the Fourth of July - Best Place to Watch Fireworks?

In Maine, the Fourth of July is more of a kickoff to summer than the traditional Memorial Day. In July, we have reliably lovely weather, Sewell Pond is warm enough for swimming ,and strawberries are ripe for shortcake. The Lincoln Telegraph of 1839 describes the festivities planned for Bath that day, including the unique location of the Fire Works (“if the weather is pleasant”) noted in larger excerpt below.

In 2021, Bath will have fireworks (and a full day of events), set off from a barge on the Woolwich (east) side of the Kennebec. And it will be a doubly joyful celebration because we are coming out of the pandemic, the closings and cancellations, and of course the personal losses and hardships endured by so many. Today my tour participants asked me “Where’s the best place to watch the fireworks?” in Bath. I pointed out my favorite spot - the east front of the Library. Perch on the ledge if you are young or brave or both.
