Things to do in Bath, Maine this weekend, July 14th-16th, 2023

On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12noon the Bath Farmers’ Market (heirloom tomatoes pictured above) will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. We are running our Downtown Tour at 9:30am, as usual. And, from 11am-2pm, Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine continues their “Meet the Maker” series with fellow Bath-entrepreneur and photographer Benjamin Williamson. Williamson is the former photo editor for Downeast magazine and as such has all the best tips for visiting shutterbugs and some great pieces to take home from your visit to Maine.

The 1840s and 50s was a time of a huge increase in immigration to the United States, especially coming from Ireland, where the failure of the staple potato crop caused widespread famine. Refugees fled to America, in hopes of a new start, or at least a chance to survive. Many came to Bath, Maine.

Fourth of July, we have learned in our years living here, is the true kick off to summer in Maine- we have reliably sunny and warm weather, every sunset and sunrise is the best you ever saw, and the coastal towns sparkle. Although Mayor Vaughn’s declaration in the movie, Jaws, wasn’t completely forthright, the sentiment about the importance of the holiday rings true: “It’s a beautiful day, the beaches are open, and people are having a wonderful time.”

This weekend is a little more low-key than last weekend’s crazy busy, but with lots to do and space to focus on the things that matter (music, swimming, lobster, history, art). And, you have a chance to rest up (a bit) before NEXT weekend! (Spolier - 4th of July and Heritage Days).

Friday PM Bath kicks off its summer of music at 7pm with the Bath Concert Band at the City (aka Library) Park Gazebo. Grab a blanket or a spot of grass. You can pick up dinner to go at The Fountain (closes at 8pm) or Sister’s (closes at 6pm) Run with Soup (closes at 5pm).

Wow, is all I can say. There is SO much going on in Bath this weekend. Let’s get to it!

Friday early pm This Friday kicks off the first of this summer’s “every third Friday” Bath Art Hop. Artists / vendors will be set up all around downtown, just adding to its beauty. Throw in a beer garden and live music and you have a perfect evening! The fun runs from 4pm - 7pm. Pro tip - bring your camera (or phone camera) as the afternoon light downtown is absolutely gorgeous.
