Things to do in Bath, Maine this weekend, June 24-26, 2022

This weekend is a little more low-key than last weekend’s crazy busy, but with lots to do and space to focus on the things that matter (music, swimming, lobster, history, art). And, you have a chance to rest up (a bit) before NEXT weekend! (Spolier - 4th of July and Heritage Days).

Friday PM Bath kicks off its summer of music at 7pm with the Bath Concert Band at the City (aka Library) Park Gazebo. Grab a blanket or a spot of grass. You can pick up dinner to go at The Fountain (closes at 8pm) or Sister’s (closes at 6pm) Run with Soup (closes at 5pm).

Saturday After hitting the Bath Farmer’s Market at Waterfront Park, consider a swim at Sewell Pond. The pond, just across the bridge and a bit south, in Arrowsic, is shallow, so it warms up pretty quick, and it is officially, afterall summer. I recommend jumping at the entrance right off 127. You can head across the pond to the rope swing and back, and get a good 3/4 mile swim in. If you prefer a little hike followed by relaxing on the warmed bedrock stones surrounding the pond while you size up the rope swing (not too scary), come in on Old Stage Road.

Saturday PM Afterward, just head a bit further south on the peninsula to Five Islands Lobster Co. This beauty of this spot is rivaled only by the quality and freshness of the lobster and other goodies (try the Jenny Special, a yummy haddock and crab sandwich). You can watch the lobster boats and other fishing vessels come and go. Open 11:30-7. They have ice-cream, but BYOB. If you are heading in before 6, you can stock up at Five Island Farm market.

Sunday The rescheduled (due to weather) Caravan Artist Market promises to sparkle this Sunday from 11am-4pm on Waterfront Park (site of the Saturday Farmer’s Market). As I said last weekend, break open the piggy bank and be prepared to spend it on treasures from these talented artists. Go after our 11am walking tour of Bath’s historic Washington Street neighborhood - plenty of time to shop afterward!

Though some highlights change from week to week, others remain the same, like our great restaurants and shops. To peruse previous “things to do” posts, just go to our Tour Talk Blog home page. Don’t forget to come back next week for the Bath social season’s high point, Heritage Days (including the best places to watch fireworks!).
