Art Hop! And Farmers’ Market and music and…Brunch!

Bath, Maine - area summer activities

Mockingbird Bookshop on Front Street keeps us on our toes - and smiling - with their sandwich board!

What would a weekly blog intro be without a mention of the weather? It absolutely poured on Sunday - I had three tours that day, one which we coined “A bath in Bath” - and we are all still trying to dry out with this humidity. So, I can’t blame anyone who seeks out an air-conditioned theater this weekend to see Barbie and/or Oppenheimer …or to cheer on the US in the Women’s World Cup (their first game is Friday at 9pm ET). Regardless - be sure to make time to do some fun things in the Bath, Maine area! Read on to see what’s up…

This weekend in Bath, kick it off on Thursday, July 20th, at 4pm with our Downtown Bath Walking Tour. The downtwon tour takes you through 400+ years of Bath history - with stories, and scandals and near escapes!

We will finish in time for you to go to the 6pm author(s) event at Mockingbird Bookshop. Authors Susan Conley and Lily King will discuss writing, friendship, and more. Or, if you are looking for some live rockabilly music and beautiful harbor views with sailboats galore, head to Georgetown and Derektor Robinhood Marina, and check out King Memphis (and dine at The Osprey!)

On Friday evening, July 21st, from 4-7pm, it’s Art Hop! (See picture from last month’s above.) Art Hop is a monthly summer gathering in downtown Bath, Maine, of artists selling their wares, stores staying open late, music and joy filling the streets of Front and Centre in Bath, Maine. Solo Pane hosts artist Stephanie Pruzansky during their Apertivo that evening.

The Bath Farmers’ Market takes place every Saturday, from 8:30am-12 noon at Waterfront Park in Bath, Maine.

Finally, and not to be missed, on Friday at 6:30pm, the free Summer Concert Series continues with the Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus performing at the Library Park gazebo. (OK - and that’s just the start!)

On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12 noon the Bath Farmers’ Market will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. Goranson Farm, market stalwarts, recently posted a passionate plea to all of us, in the wake of the devastating flooding in Vermont last weekend, to SUPPORT FARMERS.

Also on Saturday from 10am - noon, the Patten Free Library is hosting an Artist Talk & Reception with Susan Hess, “Minitature Echoes: Through the Art of the Gee’s Bend Quiltmakers.” And, all day Saturday and Sunday, Sweet Escape boutique on Front Street will be hosting a pop-up with Our Closet Shop - this looks so fun, another young entrepreneur in our city - let all your hip (and want-to-be-hip) friends know especially!

On Saturday at 5pm, more free music, this time at Waterfront Park, featuring the Portland based rock duo, Muddy Ruckus which will be playing their distinctive “grungy style of railroad indie punk blues.” Love it! Thank you Chocolate Church and Main Street Bath (and sponsors!) for bringing us all the free music all summer long!

Mae’s Cafe is open for breakfast, brunch and lunch, from 8am-2pm, 7 days a week. Reservations welcome!

Finally, on Sunday, we get a day of rest. Perfect chance to check out breakfast or brunch in Bath - Mae’s Cafe (pictured), Southgate Family Restaurant, and Winnegance Restaurant & Bakery are just a few local favorites. The first two are downtown, while Winnegance is a little bit south on High Street - perfect stop on your way to Popham Beach!

Pro tip - Mae’s serves Bloody Mary’s and the like; you can also crack open a breakfast beer at Winnegance. 🤣
